Marnita Patton, MA, ATR, CCBT, CGT, CDP, Art Therapist at Pasadena Villa Orlando, led residents on an Art Adventure involving charger plates. Charger plates are large plates used during full course dinners and are intended to make beautiful accents at special events. Charger plates have actually been around since the 19th century. This Creative Craft project is easy to do and certainly has our residents feeling good about themselves and their ability to create something pleasing and attractive. The plates made from the activity are so elegant, they can most certainly be given as gifts!
Each resident had the opportunity to use the charger plate of their choice, in bright shimmery colors. Tissue paper was torn and then applied to the plate with Mod Podge by residents. Once a final coat of Mod Podge was applied for a finished look, wooden words were selected and painted with a complementary color. Finally, words were adhered to the plate. When all of the chargers were finished, each resident received an easel to display their unique and beautiful creations. For ideas on how to decorate your own fall themed charger plates go here.
Our mental health professionals worked directly with residents. They observed them in actual social situations and incorporated these observations directly into each resident’s ongoing treatment plan. This individual and personalized attention makes the Pasadena Villa treatment experience more appropriate, relevant and beneficial for each of our residents, especially when compared to any other available adult residential treatment mental health services.
As one of the very first programs in the country to base its treatment upon Social Integration, our mental health facilities offer help through a unique mix of individualized therapy and group residential programs with a clear focus towards achieving more independent living.
Pasadena Villa Orlando and Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge are adult intensive psychiatric residential treatment centers for clients with serious mental illnesses. We also provide other individualized therapy programs, step-down residential programs, and less intensive mental health services, such as Community Residential Homes, Supportive Housing, Day Treatment Programs and Life Skills training at our Transitional Living and Learning Center. If you or someone you know may need counseling on mental health services, please contact us. Please call us at 877-845-5235 for more information.
